Waste Diversion Efforts (Resource Conservation)
Four Seasons implemented a Waste Diversion Program in 2000, and has since diverted over 17,000 tons of waste from the landfill. Our annual recycling impact exceeds 3,000 tons and we currently have a diversion rate of 88%, which includes recycling or composting the following materials:
|
|
Office Paper
Cardboard
Produce waste
Batteries
Anti-Freeze
Rubber tires |
Steel
Plastic wrap
Metal cans
Plastic bottles
Used motor oil
Fluorescent lamps |
 |
We also provide the office personnel with Single-Stream Recycling or better known as Co-Mingling. We partnered with Waste Management to provide us with a container to place all recycycables into without having to seperate them. This includes office paper (any color), newspapers, paperback books, phonebooks, paper towels / bags, magazines, catalogs, file folders, plastic bottles, plastic containers # 1-7, aluminum cans, glass, aluminum foil, iron, steel, tin cans, small cardboard boxes, and cartons. This increases productivity among our associates since we can place all these items into a single container!
Benefits of Recycling
-
Avoids the cost of disposing a waste product. For Four Seasons, $85/ton of waste is saved when waste is recycled. At more than 3,000 tons of materials recycled per year - an amount that is growing annually - the economic benefits are substantial
-
Increases revenue when "waste" material can be sold. Many waste products such as paper, aluminum cans, scrap metal, and cardboard can be sold to materials processors who use it in manufacturing new products.
